About the Instruments. All stringed instruments built by Stan Schmidt are handmade from aged tonewoods and constructed in the Italian tradition. Strict attention is paid to detail to create pristine European style (non-antiqued) instruments that are fashioned after famous old instruments. His acoustic designs are tested using modern electronic instrumentation and computers to optimize desired tonal qualities. Stan’s instruments, played by professional musicians in large concert halls, have been consistently characterized as being “very strong, clear, even, complex in tone, and having an action as smooth as butter.”
